Adult Male Terrier Mix - Easley, SC

Tugboat is a resilient little guy with a big heart. After a traumatic injury led to the amputation of one of his hind legs, he was rescued from the county shelter and has been adjusting beautifully to his new lease on life. Though understandably timid at first—especially in unfamiliar situations—Tugboat blossoms into a playful, affectionate companion once he feels safe and settled. When he opens up, he’s a total loverboy who adores zooming around the yard with joy!

Tugboat is likely part herding breed, possibly cattle dog, given his active nature and smarts—though his exact breed mix is unknown without a DNA test. He’s currently working on both house and crate training and making steady progress.

He gets along well with other dogs and can be ok around cats if boundaries are given. While he may give chase if a cat runs, he responds well to gentle redirection/correction. Tugboat can display some anxiety, which shows up as occasional growling or barking—even toward familiar people. However, he's never acted aggressively and is learning how to channel that nervous energy in healthier ways, like playing with a flirt pole in the yard. He also receives a daily calming supplement (Fera Pet Organics) with his meals to help him stay balanced.

Due to his anxious temperament, Tugboat would do best in a calm, stable home with older children or teens—young kids and high-energy households may overwhelm him. He’s also not well-suited for apartment living, as he needs space to decompress and may be sensitive to the noise and bustle of close quarters.

Tugboat needs a patient, understanding adopter who’s willing to give him time to adjust and feel secure. In return, you’ll gain a loyal, spirited, and loving friend who just needs a little extra support to thrive.

Tugboat is 5 years old, ~20lbs, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

Tugboat is located in a foster home. We are happy to coordinate a meet & greet for pre-approved adopters.
