Foster a dog, Change a Life
Fostering is one of the most powerful ways you can help an animal in need. By opening your home temporarily, you’re giving a pet love, safety, and a real chance at finding their forever family. All it takes is your time, some basic daily care, like feeding, playing, and cuddling, and a willingness to show them kindness. You may also bring them to adoption events, where they’ll meet potential adopters. Foster placements can be short or longer-term, depending on what works for you. Every foster saves a life, and yours could be the bridge between a shelter and a happy ending.
Foster Application Process
This application is designed to help determine if fostering a rescue dog is the best choice for you and your family. All potential foster parties are required to complete this form in full prior to fostering a JLR dog. Upon submission of this application, you will see a confirmation message. An email chain will be created for you with further instructions. A volunteer processor will be assigned to this email chain and will complete your reference checks and phone interview. Only after these steps are completed is the application considered approved. From this point, we will let you know which dogs are in need of foster placements and work to pair you with a suitable fit.
Medical:
If not already, all dogs will be spayed/neutered, up to date on core vaccinations including rabies, DHPP, and bordetella, dewormed, flea/tick free, and tested for heartworms. Most dogs are microchipped.
Terms & Conditions:
Jasper's Legacy Rescue (JLR) reserves the right to deny any application for any reason including but not limited to the application itself, adoption question answers, and/or reference checks.
Applications can take up to (1) one week to process, so please be patient as JLR is 100% volunteer run and everyone is also employed full-time with regular jobs.
All dogs currently within the potential foster's home must be spayed/neutered. If they are not, the application will immediately be denied. Exceptions are accepted with a note from the vet in the case of too old/young or medical conditions that prevent anesthesia.
Although not standard, JLR has the right to request a home visit to ensure the dog being fostered will have the appropriate environment necessary for the breed or for any special needs that may exist for the welfare of the dog.
If any behavioral issues should arise with the foster dog, it is mandatory for the foster to inform a JLR admin, who will then coordinate with a licensed professional dog trainer for a professional evaluation should any behavioral issues arise.
All needed supplies are provided to the foster at no expected cost to them. If reimbursement is needed for supplies, it is the foster's responsibility to provide receipt and request reimbursement. These purchases must be approved by a JLR admin before being made. Needed supplies MUST be requested. We do not transfer funds for supplies without receipts.
In any circumstance that the foster is unable or unwilling to provide care for their adopted dog, the dog must be returned to JLR. The dog is never to be surrendered to a shelter, sold, re-homed, given away, abandoned, or euthanized for convenience. We ask for a 2 week grace period to find alternate placement for a foster move.
