Our Story

Jasper’s Legacy is a 501c3 Non-profit dog rescue with foster homes across Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. We opened our doors in 2025 with the mission to rescue dogs from neglect, abandonment, abuse, or public shelter euthanasia.

Once taken into Jasper’s Legacy, dogs are placed in foster homes where they are allowed time to decompress and are supported with training and vet care if needed while they await adoption. Living in a real home, surrounded by people and other dogs, gives them the best chance to adjust and thrive before joining their forever family.

Stephanie Melton has dedicated over 6 years of work in dog rescues, including Hearts of the North Dog Rescue. She found her way into dog rescue in 2018 when she found a stray dog right before heading back to Clemson for her Sophomore year of college. Although a dog was not what she needed at the time, taking a risk on a bully breed with heartworms and severe separation anxiety turned out to be the best decision of her life.

“Jasper” was with her throughout so many life changes. He moved with her through college semesters, to out of state internships, and to another state after college. He was with her when she bought her first home, got her first job, and was even the ring bearer at her wedding. Every effort and every pup we save through Jasper’s Legacy is in memory of Jasper.
