Scout: The Dog Who Thinks Humans Hung the Moon
Some dogs are friendly. Some dogs are affectionate.
And then there's Scout.
Scout is a 2-year-old mixed breed weighing about 45 pounds, and we've honestly never met another dog quite like him. He was found on the Fourth of July, trotting down the middle of a busy road. Emaciated, exhausted, with his paw pads torn raw from the hot asphalt. Somehow, despite whatever he experienced before being rescued, Scout came away believing one thing:
People are wonderful.
To Scout, humans are everything. He doesn't just enjoy your company, he treasures it. He'll quietly sit at your feet, gaze at you with complete adoration, and gently lean into you just to stay connected. He wants to be close, always touching you if he can. It's hard to put into words just how deeply this dog loves people. Even complete strangers are greeted like long-lost friends.
Scout doesn't ask for much. He's a lower-energy companion who's happiest simply being with his person. He walks well on a leash, rides well in the car (though you'll need to pick him up to get in), and is content to spend his days by your side.
He's crate trained and mostly house trained. Scout was recently neutered and is still learning that he doesn't need to mark indoors anymore. He's graduated from wearing a belly band in his foster home, but he'll likely benefit from one for a short time while settling into a new environment.
Scout has also shown us what a gentle soul he is with cats and would be happy sharing a home with feline friends with a proper introduction.
When it comes to other dogs, he'd rather not live with them. He isn't dog aggressive and isn't reactive on walks or in public. In fact, he'd simply prefer they respect his space. If another dog pushes for an introduction, he may growl to ask for distance. Scout is an introvert in a dog suit. After everything he's been through, we don't think it's fair to ask him to spend the rest of his life sharing his home with another dog when we know he'd be happiest as your one and only.
If you're looking for a dog park regular or a dog who wants a canine playmate, Scout probably isn't your guy.
But if you're looking for a best friend who will love you with every ounce of his heart, quietly follow you from room to room, and remind you every single day just how special the bond between a dog and a human can be... Scout is waiting.
He's spent enough time searching for someone.
Now he's just hoping someone is searching for him.
